January 30th: "Pack the House" Basketball Game, Senior Night and Fundraiser for St. Florian

St. Francis de Sales High School will host a “PACK THE HOUSE” fundraiser for St. Florian Elementary School during their January 30th Senior Night Basketball Game against Brother Rice. All proceeds from the ticket sales and 20% of the concession sales will go to support St. Florian Elementary School.

St. Florian has operated for over a century and is the last Catholic school in Hegewisch. Last year, St. Florian was slated to be closed but after an outpouring of support from families, alumni and the community, the school was able to remain open. Since then, St Florian has strengthened enrollment and has continued to raise money in support of the school.

St. Florian School board member, Dawn Klein-Pilota has stated “building relationships with the communities and schools near St. Florian have only helped local Catholic schools survive and flourish.  We are committed to our community and have a vested interest in our children and the schools they attend.”

St. Francis de Sales High School has operated for 75 years and is celebrating their 75th year with a Gala event on March 21st.  St. Francis de Sales High School and St. Florian have worked together over the decades as many St. Florian graduates have gone on to be alumni of St. Francis de Sales.

Coach Kevin Wolfe, the Pioneers returning basketball coach and graduate of St. Florian, saw the opportunity this event brings to support two schools that are very important to the communities in the East Side and Hegewisch. “Being an alum of St Florian, it just feels right that we would help. There are quite a few alumni of Pioneer Nation that have sons and daughters at St. Florian and I felt that it was our duty to help give back to an important part of our community” said Coach Wolfe.

“We hope many in the community will come out for this event. It is a great opportunity to see St. Francis de Sales basketball team, support St. Florian Elementary School and celebrate Catholic Schools Week” said Mary Kay Ramirez, Director of Community Relations at St. Francis de Sales High School.  Community members, alumni, families and students are invited to participate in this event. Doors open at 5:30 for the sophomore game. Varsity players take the floor at 7:00 pm on January 30th.
